Be
careful around piles of leaves. There can be
critters in there such as mice, snakes, and bees.
Leaves
on the ground may also be slippery so be careful to avoid
injuries.
Fireplaces, electric, kerosene and propane heaters are
toasty but be careful not to allow young children too close
to them thus avoiding burns.
Also,
assure ventilation is adequate to avoid carbon monoxide
poisoning. Early symptoms may be nausea, vomiting, light
headedness, and headache. Seek care at an emergency room if
this problem is suspected.
Hayrides and pumpkin picking are fun activities.
Children
with asthma and/ or allergies may experience severe or
persistent coughing when exposed to this environment. Please
be sure urgent or emergent care is not needed for
evaluation. A child with asthma and a severe cough does not
need cough medicine; treatment for their asthma will quiet
the cough.

Kids love
trick or treating. Monitor where your child goes and
assure they are safe from traffic, other people and treats
they receive. Use your instincts. If something about a house
does not seem right, skip that house and go to the next one.
Supervise
your children at the bus stop. Guide them to watch
for oncoming traffic and obey the rules for crossing the
street. Dress them appropriately for the weather, especially
when it turns very cold or is raining.
Book
bags for school should be checked to make sure they are
not too heavy for your child. Bags that are too heavy can
cause back and shoulder pain as well as affect their
posture.
